The Theory of relativity. What crosses your mind the minute you hear that term? What memories or associations does it evoke in your brain? Is it high school class with physics formulas on the blackboard? Or is it a teacher talking and giving examples of laws of physics? Do you associate it with Cosmology or a System’s Theory? Does it bring to mind a funny man with a strange hair style sticking his tongue out for a photo-shoot? The Theory of Relativity connects all these pictures and meanings and brings them to a common denominator. Theory of Relativity is the Theory of Everything…
The man behind it, probably the brightest mind of his century, Albert Einstein – managed to grasp, relate, and bring into one precise, structured system so many fundamental parameters in the Universe, that it took a while for the rest of the scientific community of his time to come to terms with it.
Space, Time, Motion, Matter, Mass, Relativistic Mass, Gravity, Energy, Light, Photon and Wave, Speed of Light, Length Contraction, Time Dilation, The Doppler Effect – these and other fundamental nature’s phenomena, were all brought under one theory based on the insights of Albert Einstein.
His work has provided much of the basis for those working with physics, in particular. Some technological devices also bear his name, including a refrigerator. The first fully imaging x-ray telescope is at the Einstein Observatory and the Europeans named an unmanned cargo resupply spacecraft the Albert Einstein ATV.
In 1905, one of the papers released by Albert Einstein regarded the Theory of Special Relativity. This actually preceded the Theory of General Relativity. The Theory of Special Relativity was based on a variety of things that had weighed heavily upon his mind in the previous years. By diligently using his mental powers, he was eventually able to construct this paper and change the world of physics forever.
Interestingly enough, a man of such an enormous intellectual power had a very lighthearted sense of humor. In the early 1950s, a photographer attempted to persuade Einstein to smile for the camera on his birthday. Having already done so many times throughout the day, he chose to stick out his tongue instead. This has become the most famous photo of the scientist. Today, it is used on all types of merchandise from t-shirts to coffee mugs. This picture is used to decorate gifts for those who are interested in both science and humor.
This book is going to give you access to the beautiful mind of the nineteenth century’s greatest scientist, his everlasting desire for an insight into the world around him, his elegant and unorthodox way of thinking and his biggest ever realisation that resulted in the development of a scientific system that changed the world and science forever.
In this book, the Theory of Relativity, as complex as it may be, is laid out and explained in a way that anybody can grasp the essence of it and enjoy the wonderful insights into the world, matter, and Universe!
